I`ve had tinnitus for at least 7 years . Sometimes it is almost gone. My question is why does it get louder when I work very hard like chopping wood for a couple hours . I even where ear plugs .I thought that exercise was supposed to help tinnitus

This is heavy stuff and not the kind of exercise recommended. Anyways, there are hardly any exercises recommended for tinnitus. The ones usually done are to control the blood pressure that is also associated with Tinnitus. In fact, wood chopping might be a bit traumatic for your already sensitive ears. So, better stay away from some thing that increases your suffering.
