Can tinnitus go away slowly over time?

Question: Can tinnitus go away slowly over time?

(Posted by: Jason on 2010-02-14 13:28:07)

I made the mistake of listening to music with ear buds a long time ago and now my ear rings. Can the ringing in my ear go away overtime? I don't use ear buds anymore and the tinnitus doesn't seem to be as worse but there is still ringing.

There is no know sure cure for tinnitus. You will probably have it all your life and it usually gets worse as you age. Teens tend to think that when they are warned about hearing loss when listening to loud music that this is just not going to happen. It is a physical fact about the human body. It can only take so much hearing loud sounds before PERMANENT damage is incurred. I am sorry to have to inform you of this. I am a nurse, I live and practice in Florida.

Nope, its permanent damage to your eardrums, sorry to tell you that.

Tinnitis can go away - people get this from listening to loud music, from inner ear disorders or after a mild viral illness. Over time, it becomes less and less noticeable - especially if you are young. In older adults, this can sometimes become a chronic problem which never goes away. You can go to WebMd.com and type in tinnitus and read up on this condition.
