Pulsatile tinnitus bad?

Question: Pulsatile tinnitus bad?

(Posted by: Weiswolf on 2009-10-23 12:33:54)

I have pulsatile tinnitus in my right ear (for nearly a year now), it is so thundering loud sometimes that I can't hear anything else. I saw an ENT doctor who scheduled me for an MRI (no dye was used). The ENT said that the results of the MRI showed no arterial irregularities and pretty much left it at that. Several months have now gone by and it if anything it is getting worse (could just be psychosomatic though). Should I really spend the money and go through the hassle of getting a second opinion on this since the first doctor dismissed it so casually after receiving the MRI results?

Yes you should. I don't think that an MRI could be that conclusive if no dye was used either. Call up some physicians and see if any of them specialize in the circulatory system.

Very sorry to hear. If your doctor doesn't study in the field of the circulatory system, then you should find one who does. I had a slight case of this when I was a youngster in grade school. It wasn't bad enough to complain about, but it was there just a well. Although bothersome, in most cases tinnitus isn't a sign of something serious. For most people, symptoms of tinnitus get better with treatment. And once diagnosed, your physician will be able to treat the cause when identified. Best wishes to you & hope you get treatment that will get you on the road to a speedy recovery.

Hi There, The 2nd doc will also say the same thing as they DO NOT have a solution at hand. Thats the irony of tinnitus...very easy to get from innumerable sources and causes, but extremely difficult to manage. Valium, Xanax and Klonopin are benzodiazepine drugs that many doctors prescribe for tinnitus. These are conventional medications which achieve only limited success in tinnitus relief, and usually their bothersome side effects such as dry mouth, blurred vision, and constipation often discourage use. They are addicting to varying degrees and cannot be used continuously for a long period of time. They are helpful in reducing tinnitus symptoms and aid in sleeping. Valium is the most addicting of these and is not used often for this reason. Xanax is very popular and is prescribed often for tinnitus. However, the ATA report on medications that cause tinnitus lists Xanax as causing it in 6.6% of cases. Natural and holistic tinnitus remedies, though, can be effective in assisting with the relief of symptoms, as well as addressing the individual’s overall health and well-being. These herbal remedies can be used to support all body systems involved in helping the ear to perform its tasks of clear hearing and balance, as well as the circulatory, cardiovascular, and nervous systems. Some of the most common herbs used are • Ginkgo Biloba is excellent for a number of cerebral and circulatory disorders. It is probably the most widely-used herb for tinnitus and many sufferers swear by this natural ingredient. • Rosemary dilates and strengthens blood vessels and is an excellent circulation tonic. Rosemary is particularly useful for tinnitus that is caused or worsened by high blood pressure and other circulatory conditions. • Avena Sativa is effective in reducing high cholesterol levels which can contribute to circulatory problems which cause tinnitus. • Wild Hyssop s also useful in reducing pain and inflammation. • Salicylic Ac.(30C) is indicated for tinnitus with loud roaring or ringing sounds, which may be accompanied by deafness or vertigo. This remedy is particularly useful in people whose symptoms began with a bout of flu, Meniere’s disease or long-term use of aspirin. Hope all this helps Good Luck!

Well this is how it hoes 90% of the time, the doctors just dismiss it like this because they don't know what to do with it. 80% chance that your second doctor will react in the same way. Most cases of pulsatile tinnitus are incurable and sometimes the ringing just stops all of a sudden, I wish for the latter in your case. Good luck!!
